Obituary for Richard Henry Patterson MD

Richard Henry Patterson, M.D. was born into eternal life on March 9, 2018 at the age of 86. Dear son of Richard and Gertrude Patterson preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Greg. Beloved husband of Kathy, loving father of Christopher Patterson, Jill Jeske and Brian Jeske (son-in-law loved like a son) and proud grandfather of Hannah Jeske and Ian Jeske.
Richard graduated from Marquette Medical School (now the Medical College of Wisconsin) in 1956, served honorably as a flight surgeon in the USAF from 1958 until 1960 followed by Reserves, and practiced psychiatry until retirement in 1995. Rather than retiring to inactivity, Dick kept busy on their minifarm driving the tractor and pursuing hobbies. He remained active with family and friends. For many years he volunteered for the recreation therapy department at the Zablocki VAMC. He always had a smile, a kind word and a story for the patients and staff.
While in medical school he and his fellow students enjoyed playing 5-handed sheepshead in their free time. All went on to successful medical practices and, after their retirements, came together again every other Thursday for rousing games of sheepshead.
Special appreciation and thanks to two of the physicians who helped him live a long and productive life, Drs. Marshal Mirviss and Diane Book. Deep gratitude as well to the caring, dedicated staff at the Muskego Health Care Center, Horizon Home Care and Hometown Hospice and Homecare.
There will be a private cremation. A celebratory brunch will be held in May. Details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to either the Zablocki VAMC, the Medical College of Wisconsin or the humane society of your choice.
His winning smile and truly kind heart will live on in family, friends and all who knew him.
