Obituary for Dorothy Rose Miller
Dorothy (DoDo/Mrs. Miller) received a call on March 10, 2019 at 8:44AM. It was an offer she was unable to refuse. (No, she was not asked to support another cause.) She gladly accepted the opportunity knowing she would no longer be able to visit with her earthly friends and family, yet knew at some point in time, she would see them again. The knowledge of this gave her peace in her decision to take the trip and begin a new adventure she was very excited about. Oh, how she loved to travel.
She was a bit nervous and slightly unprepared. She was not able to make her hair salon appointment, nor put on her lipstick and sunhat before leaving. She barely gave it a second thought as she knew her natural beauty would show through. Her happiness would bring the amber sparkle back to her brown eyes and the olive tone back to her skin. Not only that, she was certain her sister Florence would share her lipstick as she prepared to see her husband Kenny after 36 years of being apart. She wondered, if he would be wearing his Naval uniform. She loved a man in uniform.
She would have a few surprise visits in store for her. Her cousin Jerry, she was very close with, would be waiting for her as well as Adam, the son of her very close friends and guardians, Joe and TJ. Though it may come as news, she will welcome them with smiles, cheek kisses with hands held tight, and hugs as she always did with people she genuinely cared about and loved.
So many thoughts ran through her head of what she would be able to do. Dorothy was eager to get back to her sewing, knitting, and crocheting (or putting contact paper on things as a means of preservation). She had spent many days teaching her “adopted children” (Jansky kids next door) these fine, life skills. The family became lifelong friends (54+ years) with “Mrs. Miller.” Little does she know, she would soon see her dear old friend, Florence Jansky, and have a crafting partner for eternity.
She wondered what kind of schedule they would keep where she was going. She also questioned, if they would be organized and have notecards, she could write important details on and file for later use. There better be mailing, rubber bands for her rolled up $2 bills; her special gifts for people.
It just dawned on her she was not thinking about her diabetes at all. She was craving cupcakes with frosting, Lifesaver mints, Oreo cookies, Lorna Doone cookies, and sugar wafers. She did not feel she needed to hide them, either. She wanted to let everyone know, there WILL BE her favorite cupcakes at her new life party!

Dorothy Rose was born May 22, 1916 to parents Paul Radke and Rose Lentz in Wauwatosa, WI. She was baptized on June 11, 1916 at Holy Cross Church in Milwaukee. She was raised by God loving parents. She was confirmed on March 29, 1931 at Evangelical Lutheran Church. She went to Central High School and graduated June 12, 1947.
She married her love, Kenneth Gordon Miller on May 16, 1942. At that time, Kenny was a diesel mechanic and Dorothy was a telephone operator. Kenny served in the US Naval Reserve as a Chief Specialist (T) (Acting Appointment). He was honorably discharged on November 29, 1945.
Kenny and Dorothy enjoyed married life in West Allis, WI. Kenny became an electrician and Dorothy a housewife with numerous talents and hobbies as well as a love for her cats. They enjoyed listening to music, gardening, taking long drives, traveling to scenic places in the states, and spending time with relatives and neighbors. Kenny passed away in 1983.
Dorothy continued to live in West Allis until 2011 when she became a resident at Clement Manor. Joe and TJ would like to take a moment to thank the staff, families, and hospice at Clement Manor for your dedication and care for Dorothy over the years. She loved HER Christal. A special thank you for the extras you all did for her; Heidi, Denise & Pam, Sheila, James, Sandy, Amber, Trish, and Debbie.
