Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Filut

Elizabeth (Betty) Filut passed peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at the age of 94.
Through her adult life, Elizabeth was an active member of Mother of Good Counsel School and Parish. She sewed habits for the nuns, worked in the school office and library, volunteered for the nut and pizza fundraisers and so much more. She participated in the MGC Women’s Volleyball Team through her 70’s. In recent years, she knit with other ladies in the parish rectory.

Betty was a Girl Scout leader and involved in Scouts for nearly 30 years.
She enjoyed summers at her North Lake home and winters at her Fort Myers home. She loved family events—getting together for birthdays and weekly Sunday dinners.

Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and playing Bridge. She spent her days and nights knitting afghans, baby sweaters and baby booties. Betty played bridge every Wednesday until she was 90 years old.
Betty was happily married to Lee Filut, until his passing in March 1995.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Dennis Filut, Sharon (the late Darrell) Barnett, Judy Filut, Carol (Phillip) Young and Mary (Sean) Murray. Grandchildren, Allison (Brandon) Jobke, Jared Young, Cassandra (Andrew) Trible, Kevin Young, Owen and Quinn Murray. Great-grandchildren, Noah and Isaiah Jobke. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Terry Mueller, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Filut and four brothers.
