Obituary for Ernst "Ernie" Lasanske

Ernst “Ernie” Lasanske, age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30th, 2023 at the Veterans Hospital in King, where he had been living for almost 6 years.

Ernie was born the only son of Howard and Elfrieda Lasanske, on August 13, 1939, in Milwaukee, WI.  The Lasanske family settled in Menomonee Falls, WI, where Ernie grew up with his three sisters, Diane Smolinski (deceased), Laura Merbeth (Peter), and Judy Riedel (Bill, deceased).

Ernie graduated from Menomonee Falls High School, and during his high school years, met his true love of 56 years, Marliese, on a blind date.  They were married following his return from the service, on November 17, 1962.  Shortly thereafter, they began their family along with several new business adventures.  Ernie opened his first Enco service station in 1963, and over the years he purchased several laundromats and gas stations.

Ernie was an avid hunter; however, his favorite sport was duck hunting.  He was raised on a farm and always had a passion for farming.   His enthusiasm for agriculture led him to purchase his farmland in Almond, WI, where they planted pine trees, field corn and soybeans.  The “Farm” was also used as a gathering spot for the deer hunters in the family and many friends.  In his free time, Ernie could always be found in the pole barn tinkering with things that weren’t necessarily broken.

Ernie and Marliese donated much of their time to volunteer at Serenity Inn.  Ernie also worked on the grounds committee at Shepard of the Hills Church.  They delivered Meals on Wheels and enjoyed lending a hand at the local food pantry.  Once they retired in Almond, at their beloved farm, they spent their time volunteering at their local church and the VA in King.

Loved ones who will miss Ernie are his son Keith Lasanske, daughter Michelle (Jim) Hetzel, and son Todd (Dawn) Lasanske.  His grandchildren, Blake Lasanske, Jake (Emily) Hetzel, Brittany (Jay) Voter, Kyra and Austin Lasanske.  Sisters, Laura (Peter) Merbeth, and Judy Riedel.  Sister-in-law Markia Winkler and brother-in-law Paul Vasholz.  He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at the VA Home in King, for the loving and kind care of their father.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, N2665 County Road QQ, King, WI 54946 would be appreciated.

Visitation Thursday, December 7th, from 2-4pm at Shepard of the Hills Church, 1350 Hwy 175, Hubertus, followed by a Funeral Service at 4:15pm.
