Passed away on May 28, 2019 at the age of 94. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Rosalind of 40 years. He is survived by children Thomas Plantikow, Julie Campbell, Laurie (Harry) Rapkin, Jill Weiss (Glenn Davis) and his six grandchildren Alexander, Robert, Daniel, Ada, Benjamin and Hannah. John is preceded in death by his parents Otto and Hertha (Zastrow) Plantikow and his siblings Martin Plantikow and Eleanor Heinrich.
Born in Wausau in 1924, John had a long and successful career as Vice President of Operations and Construction Manager for electrical contracting firms. John has been involved with wiring many of the iconic buildings and businesses in the Milwaukee area. When he wasn't working, John enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Wild Rose. He also took great pleasure in traveling around the country in his camper, visiting family and enjoying the sights.
As a proud WWII veteran, John served with the 555th Engineer Heavy Ponton Battalion, building ponton bridges to create transportation routes for the infantry. He was present at the liberation of Dachau concentration camp near Munich, Germany.
Visitation will be be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 9:30-11:00 at Wisconsin Memorial Park,
Chapel of the Flowers, 13235 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield. The service and burial with Military Honors will begin at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or to a charity of your choice.
