Obituary for Kristine A. Schmidt (Holt)

Kristine A. Schmidt, 72, passed away peacefully at home June 10th, 2019.

Kris was born July 5, 1946, to Beverly and Alvin Holt.

Kris is survived by her daughters, Morgan (Chris) Schneider and Rory (Brian) Christensen. She was a fun and loving grandmother to four grandchildren Mara, Cole and Finn Schneider, and Lukas Christensen. She was the beloved sister to Lyn (Perfecto) Rivera and Wendy (Tom) Uber. She is also survived by friends too numerous to count, but all she held dear. Kris was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Holt, stepmother Ruth Holt, and stepfather Don Roberts.

Kris earned a BS in Economics and Political Science from UWM in 1968, a Certificate in Public Administration in 1986, and a Masters in Library and Information Science in 1995. She was an avid learner who audited many courses at UWM and was a participant in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UWM.

Kris strongly believed in public service, serving as an alderman in the City of Brookfield from 1986-1995, as the Brookfield City Clerk from 1995 until retirement in 2011, and then training poll workers and working the polls during elections in the City of Milwaukee through 2018.

On of Kris’ passions was learning about history, culture, and landscapes; she traveled extensively, often with friends, through Canada and the United States, and also visited New Zealand, China, Egypt, Turkey, Japan, France, Spain, Mexico, and the Virgin Islands.

Kris believed in helping others, and volunteered at her church, Immanuel Presbyterian, the Interchange food pantry, and the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, among others.

Family would especially like to thank the staff at the Courage Cancer Clinic at Froedtert Hospital including Dr Erin Bishop, as well as the staff at Horizon Hospice for their care and comfort.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors without Borders (https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/support-us) or Immanuel Presbyterian Church (https://www.immanuelwi.org/contribute).
