Obituary for Richard C. Burdick

GREENFIELD – January 12, 2024


Richard was born on October 29, 1937 to Ferdinand and Eleanor Burdick in Cudahy, Wisconsin. He passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024 at the age of 86.


Predeceased by first wife Carol M. (nee Peller). Beloved husband of Virginia S. (nee Lavann). Dearest father of Julianne Schalk, Michael Burdick, William (Mary) Burdick, James (Lisa) Burdick, Jennifer (Sandip/Micky) Minhas, John (Tracey) Burdick. Dear stepfather of the late Scott Schauer, Brian Schauer, and Kristen (Michael) Lutter. Loving grandfather of Jayson Schalk, Jack and Lydia Burdick, Olivia and Erika Burdick, Katon and Kaaya Minhas, and Anna Grace and Caroline Burdick. Step-grandfather of Amanda Waters, Ian (Kiley) Schauer and Jonathan Miller. Great-grandfather of Flynn Wright-Burdick. Fond brother of Kathleen (the late Fred) Schoendorf, Greg (Michele) Burdick. Uncle of Gary (Kathy) Schoendorf, Susan Schoendorf-Schramka (Greg), Kenneth Schoendorf,Teresa (Eric Patterson), other relatives and many friends.


Richard graduated from Marquette University in 1959 with a business degree.  He always loved working with numbers and found his passion in banking.  He began his banking career at then Marine Bank.  For much of his long career, he worked as a bank executive, retiring from Milwaukee Western Bank after 25 years as Senior Vice President. For many years, Richard and Carol attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elm Grove. They raised their six children in Brookfield, spending summers on camping trips and backyard barbecues. He and Carol enjoyed years of travel, playing Bridge and attending Marquette basketball games.  After Carol’s passing, Richard married Virginia (Ginny).  Together they attended Ascension Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir. Forever a numbers man, he served as choir treasurer for several years.   Throughout his married life, Richard loved traveling to New Orleans, for the exuberant jazz music and lively street culture.


Visitation will be held Friday January 26 , beginning 11:00 am at Schramka Funeral Home, 13220 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield, followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm. Richard will be laid to rest at Wisconsin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations appreciated to Ascension Lutheran Church, 1236 S. Layton Blvd. Milwaukee, WI 53215.
