Obituary

Born to Eternal Life January 3, 2020, age 79 years. Beloved husband of Nancy (nee Conte). Loving father of Barb, Janet, Mike (Deb) and Dave (Tammy Thompson). Dear grandfather of Alex, Tom, and Jeff. Great-grandfather of Sophia. Fond brother of June, Tim, Shirley, Greg and Jeff. Special nephew of Eddie. Also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Tom was an employee of the telephone company for 30 years. He was an inductee of the Wisconsin Old Time Ballplayers Assoc., Pius XI High School, and the Messmer High School Halls of Fame. Tom's passion was mentoring and coaching boys through sports for over five decades. The most important things to him were God, faith and family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, at Mother of Perpetual Help - Immaculate Heart of Mary Site, 1212 S. 117th St., West Allis, from 4:00 to 6:30 PM followed by a Funeral Mass at 7:00 PM. Private burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Waukesha. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Brain Tumor Assoc. would be appreciated. I met Mr. Kapp for the first time as an adult when Mike enlisted the two of us along with another friend Rod Passow to provide security detail for the Kimberly-Clark Huggies brand baby races at the Northwestern-UW basketball game. I saw Mr. Kapp about a year later and he remembered everything about me from that day, my parish, high school, college, job, etc. That small amount of contact says a lot about him and the care and attention that he put into each relationship. We will miss him, but he is in a better place.

Tom was a 1958 Messmer fellow alumnus, a very good athlete, and maybe the best baseball player I ever played with and against. He probably batted .800 against me in church baseball. More importantly, he was as nice a guy as you will ever meet. Humble, family centered, great sense of humor. It was great to reconnect with him some years ago and have some great lunches. He will be missed. Condolences to Nancy and his children.

I was coached by Tom Kapp, for basketball in 6th, 7th, 8th grade at the original MPH,
on the northside at 55th and Villard. Tom was a great coach, and even though we only
had 7 players on the team, out of an all boys class of 68, Tom coached us to win almost
all of our games. Tom was the best coach I ever had for basketball, even considering
my high school and college coaches, and I told Tom that several times in the past 20
years. We will all miss Tom, a great coach and great Christian. I pray to God to send
us more Toms. I am forever thankful to have crossed paths with Tom. Jay D. Zollitsch....
