Alfred G. Lustig of Thiensville passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday December 12th, 2023. He was born in Milwaukee on August 20
th
, 1942, to Alfred J. Lustig and Leora (Mattke) Lustig. Al graduated from Messmer High School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in Zoology from U.W. Milwaukee. He was then drafted into the Army and became a food lab technician at Natick Army base in Massachusetts. Upon discharge, Al was employed by the Waukesha Health Department as an environmental inspector. It was there where he met and married his wife Jan. They moved to Minneapolis where Al attended the University of Minnesota and earned a master's degree in Public Heath. Upon graduation, Al returned to Milwaukee and became an instructor of Environmental Health Technology at Milwaukee Area Technical College from which he retired. He was also a certified soil tester and enjoyed working outside in the Ozaukee County area.
Al's hobbies included landscaping, birdwatching, camping, and volunteering. His volunteer activities include going to Guatemala, with the Engineers without Borders, to build bridges with the indigenous people. Al spent twenty years in the Mequon/Thiensville Lions Club where he had fun bartending at LionFests. He was active with his son's Boy Scout troop 852 where he planned and participated in many outdoor adventures. Al is survived by his wife Janice Watson, his son Andrew Lustig, his brother Richard Lustig (Sher), his uncle Don Mattke (Maxine) and many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Al was known for his sense of humor, his contagious laugh, and his wonderful stories. A memorial service will be held in late spring at the historical Vernon Reformed Presbyterian Church in the town of Vernon where Al was a trustee and used his landscaping talents to beautify the church grounds.
