Barbara Ann Brzenk (nee Machi)
Born to Eternal Life on February 18, 2026, Barbara Ann Brzenk, age 88, of Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Barbara began her life in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to others. She was born on September 1, 1937, and is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Thaddeus “Ted” Brzenk, whom she loved deeply and faithfully.
Barbara was a 1955 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and a lifelong learner who attended the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee for her undergraduate and graduate studies in education. Her education laid the foundation for a remarkable vocation of public service.
A woman of unfailing commitment, Barbara dedicated more than four decades to the Waukesha School District community as a kindergarten teacher, elementary school principal, and elected school board member. She was passionate in her support of students, parents, and teachers alike, and she cared deeply about early childhood education and curriculum grounded in developmentally appropriate instruction. Barbara viewed education as a calling and led with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every child.
Even after retirement, Barbara continued serving where she was needed—offering steady leadership, mentoring future educators, and supporting the work of public education through continued involvement and guidance.
Barbara was a loving and devoted mother to Lisa (Richard) Walters, Maribeth (Jack) DeBraal, and Scott (Diane) Brzenk. Her family was the center of her life, and she gave herself wholeheartedly to nurturing, supporting, and encouraging those she loved.
Those who knew Barbara will remember a spirit deeply devoted to her family, paired with a mischievous sense of fun that delighted everyone around her. She was a proud and adoring Oma, especially cherishing time with her grandchildren. They have so many fond memories of adventures with her—trips to waterparks, the zoo, and museums—as well as the beloved “grandkid parades” that filled her home with laughter. Ever playful, Barbara loved teasing them about the “green witch,” who would call to announce she was coming after them—a family joke remembered with affection and endless smiles.
Barbara lived her life with a true sense of "Bella Figura"—always wanting to look and be her best self, to show up fully, and to embrace each day with energy and intention. She loved to have fun, to be on the go, and to be part of the action—never content to sit on the sidelines. A passionate traveler, she was fortunate to have traveled the world, eager to experience new places and adventures. She enthusiastically loved people and cherished her many dear friends, approaching life with joy, curiosity, and a terrific zest for living.
Beneath her humor and vitality was a servant’s heart and a steady, faithful trust in God. Barbara lived with humility, purpose, and grace, and she leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, joyful devotion, and lifelong service.
Barbara is lovingly survived by her children and their families.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa (Richard) Walters, and their sons Robert Walters, fiancé of Morgan Lawlis, and Matthew Walters.
She is also survived by her daughter Maribeth (Jack) DeBraal, and her sons Peter Swan (Ashley) and Paul Swan (Mariel).
She is further survived by her son Scott (Diane) Brzenk, and their daughters Brittany King (Matthew), Alyssa Lovell (Brian), and Claire Brzenk.
Barbara is also survived by her great‑grandchildren: Emery Swan and Elsie Swan, children of Peter Swan and Ashley Swan; Bella Swan, daughter of Paul and Mariel Swan; Blair Beohlke, Bryson King, and Lachlan King, children of Brittany (Brzenk) King and Matthew King; Gary Lovell, Georgia Lovell, and Casimir (“Casey”) Lovell, children of Alyssa (Brzenk) Lovell and Brian Lovell;
