Billy Ray Newberg went to heaven on May 21, 2018, at the age of 89. Billy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joanne (Imse), his four children: Christopher (Dot), Barbara (Richard) Meyers, Eric (Stasia Hazard) and Patricia (Bill Gerhardt); grandchildren: Colin Newberg, Courtney Newberg, Kevin Meyers, Lauren Meyers, Darcy Gerhardt, and Christopher Gerhardt; and great-grandchildren: Oliver Gerhardt and Veda Gerhardt. Preceded in death by parents Walter and Esther, and brothers Robert, Kenneth and Merle Newberg. Also survived by sister in laws Mitzi McGovern and Lorraine Newberg, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Billy served his country as a cartographer in the Korean War. Billy was an artist, model maker, and entrepreneur- starting his own point of purchase business, Newberg, Inc., in 1976. Billy retired in 1988, and he and Joanne traveled the world.
Billy was active in his VFW Post #9202, acted as Scoutmaster and founder of Troop 115, elected as a Germantown trustee, and volunteered in many capacities at St. Boniface Parish. He served on the Germantown Park and Recreation Board, and was instrumental in the development of Homestead Hollow Park. In 2000, Billy received the "Adult Volunteer of the Year" award from Washington County.
All who knew Billy always saw a smile on his face. Special appreciation to the wonderful staff at The Kathy Hospice and to caregiver Joanna Stevens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the family appreciated to then be distributed to Billy's many, favorite charities.
Visitation will be held from 3-6pm on Wednesday May 30 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, W204N11940 Goldendale Rd, Germantown, with Mass at 6pm. Burial services will be held on Thursday, May 31 at 11am at St. Boniface cemetery.
