Br. Benedict Stoegbauer, SDS
Age 82. Died Aug. 30 at Alexian Village, Milwaukee. Born Feb. 7, 1934, in Rhinelander, WI, to Henry and Agnes (Hehn) Stoegbauer. The family soon made their home in Appleton. Joined the Society of the Divine Savior (Salvatorians) in 1948 and made his Profession of Vows on March 19, 1950. After working on the community's farms in Menominee, MI, Lanham, MD, and St. Nazianz, WI, he served in the Salvatorian Missions in Tanzania, East Africa, for 22 years. There he established a trade school where he taught auto mechanics and other skills. After returning to the States in 1979, he ministered at St. Pius X Retreat House in Blackwood, NJ; Mother Mary Mission in Phenix City, AL, where he taught auto mechanics to prison inmates; the CASA Housing Projects in Huntsville, AL, where he provided maintenance and repair assistance to the elderly. For his work, he received the Governor's Award in 1993 and his name was enshrined in the Alabama Hall of Fame. He also ministered at Holy Spirit Parish in Huntsville and Huntsville Catholic High School. He moved to Alexian Village in 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Fr. Conrad Stoegbauer. He is survived by one brother, Br. Michael Stoegbauer OCD of Washington, DC; one sister, Barbara (Lee) Benjamin of Wadsworth, IL; numerous nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces; as well as his brothers and sisters in the Salvatorian Family.
Mass of Christian Burial Friday, September 9, 11am at The Chapel of Alexian Village, 9301 N. 76th St, Milwaukee, WI. Visitation Friday at the Chapel from 10am until time of Mass. Burial Friday, 3 pm at Salvatorian Cemetery in St. Nazianz, WI.
