Carl F. Olson of Menomonee Falls passed away peacefully in his sleep Feb. 8 after a brief illness. Surrounded by loving family in his final days, Carl was preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie (Wortham) Olson, brothers Robert and Raymond, and sister Irene.
Carl is survived by sisters Norma Schneider of Virginia and Gloria Olson of Milwaukee, as well as his brother and closest confidant, Roger (Jo Ann) Olson of Menomonee Falls. He is further survived by his very loved nieces and nephews, Amy (Bruce) Bartelt, Drew (Barb) Olson, Annie Olson, Steve (Leslie) Schneider and Stacy (David) Morrill and their children, all of whom adored "Uncle Carl."
Born in Comer, Georgia, Carl moved with his family to Rockland, Maine and then to Wisconsin. Carl was proud of his service in the United States Army. Upon completing his military service as a Staff Sergeant in the Panama Canal Zone, he began working in typewriter sales for IBM and went on to own and operate Business Products, Inc., a Wauwatosa business that specialized in the sale and service of office equipment.
Carl was a understanding boss and trusted mentor to his employees, many of whom became part of the vast network of friends who enjoyed countless beers and endless laughs at Carl's favorite places – the Honey Bucket, Trysting Place Pub, County Stadium/American Family Field, the Miller Lite Oasis at Summerfest and Potawatomi Casino, where he was both an affable donor and occasional jackpot winner.
The Olson family would like to thank the staff of talented caregivers at Community Memorial Hospital for their dedication, kindness, and compassion. Though he enjoyed gatherings, Carl made it clear that he did not want a funeral service. His family will be hosting a celebration of life next month and will welcome his friends to share "Another round with Carl."
A private military service for this spring is being planned.
