Colleen Maika, 78, passed away peacefully on April 15, while in the care of St. Croix Hospice at Harvest Home Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant.
Born August 23, 1947, in Kenosha, she was one of six children of the late Donald and Genevieve McNeil. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sigmund Maika; and her sister, Gail Motley.
On February 28, 1969, Colleen married Sigmund Maika. Together they made their home in Kenosha, where they raised their family.
Colleen devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother, and Nana; roles that were truly her calling and brought her the greatest joy. She had a welcoming home filled with love, silliness and laughter.
She had a deep love for her dogs and enjoyed planting flowers. She had a passion for baking and was known for her sweet tooth.
Colleen could often be found cheering on the Brewers, playing volleyball in the pool, or gathering with family for intense games of rummy. Above all, she treasured anytime spent with her kids and grandkids.
She is survived by her three children: Sigmund Jr., Todd (Krista), and Kimberly (Richard) Agpasa; her cherished grandchildren: Kyra, Derek, Thomas, Chase, Addison, Layla, Liliana, Londyn, and Livia; and her siblings: Bruce (Laura) McNeil, Maureen (Richard) Gentz, Linda Taylor, Don McNeil Jr.
Colleen will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to family, and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Harvest Home Assisted Living and the Hospice nurses of St. Croix for their compassionate care and support throughout her journey with Alzheimer’s. Their kindness, dedication, and the comfort they provided meant so much, and we are truly grateful for the love and care they showed her until the very end.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery (21731 Spring St, Union Grove, WI 53182) where Colleen and Sigmund’s urns will be laid to rest together. A celebration of life will follow at Brooke’s Saloon located at 3812 60th St, Kenosha, WI 53144. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor her life.
