February 8, 1931 — December 9, 2025

Menomonee Falls

David Hugo Lehman, Architect, AIA. This was the title on his business card and how he loved to be introduced. Born February 8, 1931 in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, David died peacefully surrounded by family on December 9, 2025 in Springfield, Virginia. He lived a long life filled with a large and ever-growing family.

Preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Barbara Ethel (nee Goldenne) who passed in 2010, and sons-in-law, James Dugan and Michael Payne. Survived by half siblings Shirley Redmond and Robert Jirgl. Father to six children: Mary Payne, Paul Lehman, Becky (Mike) Wessinger, Judy Dugan, Suzanne Blue & Amy Jo Klimek. Grandfather to 11: Nathan Payne, Sarah McNeil, Matt (Ashley) Payne, Rachel (Toby Blaeske), Alan Dugan, Robert (Sydney) Dugan, Morgan Blue and Cortney Cook, Aaron Blue and Maria Snyder, Cora Klimek, Lily Klimek & Celia Klimek. Great Grandfather (Opa) to 15 (and counting!): Lincoln, Penny, Elijah, Maelyn, Kieran, Maxx, Zakkary, Ivy, Oliviah, Reed, Chet, Jacob, Lydia, Skyler and Riley.

David had a long and fulfilling career in Architecture, working all the way through the age of 94! His proudest project was the Buddha Haksa Temple in Waukesha, Wisconsin. In his early years he mentored and taught drafting at Milwaukee School of Engineering and Milwaukee Area Technical College. He loved to go to the Cigar Bar to relax with a good cigar and a smooth bourbon. Playing Sheepshead and working on puzzles filled his time in his later days at Alta Mira. His final months were spent in Virginia in the loving care of his daughter Amy (with support and help from her other siblings). We hope he’s enjoying his new heavenly life, filled with loved ones, his childhood dog Tuffy, and all the fanciful adventures he had left on his bucket list.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 19th, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at the Schramka Funeral Home, 13220 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield, with a Funeral Service at 11:30 AM.  Private interment Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin.
