Deloris F (nee Fabry) Stefancin
11/22/1923 – 11/10/2025
“We sure had fun.” A phrase mom often used when reminiscing about her almost 102 years of life.
Having been here just shy of 102 years she touched a lot of lives. She not only gave of her time, but she took time out her life to see that others were taken care of. If you needed something all you would have to do was tell her and before you knew it she knew of someone who was getting rid of that very thing.
When reminiscing about her growing up years she talked about helping her mom with events at church or preparing for a family party. It seemed those Fabry’s were always getting together for some reason or another and the stories always ended with “We sure had fun!”.
Mom volunteered a lot. Starting with being a member of the Ladies Aid Society which became Christian Mothers and then Christian Women she became president and helped to run card parties and fashion shows. She also went on to be president of the Milwaukee Area Catholic Christian Women’s Organization. While a member of Holy Assumption Parish she ran the Friday Fish Fry’s. And her volunteering also included being a Den Mom for the boys and Girl Scout leader for her niece and daughter. When thinking about the many friendships she made she would always say “We sure had fun!”.
Deloris and her sister Eunice were members of the Women’s Auxiliary of VFW Post 1912. Having lived through WWII and the Korean War they new the importance of helping our veterans. It never seemed to be hard work because she’d always say ‘We sure had fun!”.
When she retired from her job as a baker at the Fruit Ranch she took up quilting and beadwork to fill her time when she wasn’t golfing, swimming or playing cards. During her life she accumulated so much fabric that Andy said she helped put Joan Fabrics out of business. We still have the fabric to prove it! She loved making quilts and her signature action was, whether on purpose or accidently, she would leave a pin in the them. When told about it, being the prankster that she was she would declare “I wouldn’t do that!”. Her grandson Christopher had one of Grandma’s quilts with him at college and in the middle of the night he found a pin. . . or the pin found him! When remembering this she would say “We sure had fun!”.
Most crafters have glitter as a tool to ‘brighten things up’ as she would say. There was no way you could get out of her apartment without getting GLITTER on you. Andy once stopped by around noon to help her with something. Unknowing to him he went back to work with GLITTER on his face and his shirt and had some explaining to do. Again, “We Sure Had Fun!”.
Card playing became a huge past-time for Mom but don’t even think about playing for nothing. Whether it was sheepshead, 51, 31 or some other game nickels were always involved.
She was a lifelong Packer Fan and told stories about going to see the Packers play and being able to sit on the 50-yard line for $8 a ticket! The Packers were her team and she always had an opinion about the quarterback. Her favorite stories were going to those $8 a ticket games with her dad. Stories that always ended with “We sure had fun!”.
Deloris was born November 22, 1923 and is survived by her 3 children Joe, Judy and Andy (Anna Wroblewski) . She had 6 amazing grandchildren – Laura (Ryan) Gunderson, Bryan (Allie) Stefancin, Joshua (Nicole) Wendorf, Christopher (Katie Achee) Wendorf, Joseph D (Jennifer Ranta) Stefancin and Amanda (Miguel) Padilla and 5 precious great-grandchildren - Ali, Lexi, Mieloh, Noelle and Kailani and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
