Donald Smith

Donald A. Smith (Don) passed away peacefully the morning of September 13th, 2022. Born in Darlington, WI to Harriet (Armstrong) and Arden Smith, Don spent most of childhood growing up in Beloit, WI. He attended Beloit Memorial High School and enrolled in Rock Valley College until transferring to St. Norbert's in DePere, WI. There he met the love of his life, Evvie (Brunette), by asking his friend to pass him a football near where she was walking, caught it, and struck up a conversation. He soon began to wait for Evvie at the theatre stage door after rehearsals, and earned the nickname "Stagedoor Donny." Together they had six children, Chris, Lisa (Tim) Janisch, Mark, Eric, Laura, and Linda (Rick) Carey, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by Evvie, son Mark, and grandson Luke Nebel. Don was an avid reader and runner, competing in several marathons. He enjoyed traveling, having been to Hawaii and many places in Europe in his later years. Don's latest passion was flying - hot air balloons, gliders, and bi-planes. Most importantly, Don had a big heart and a great sense of humor. He loved his wife and family endlessly and cherished his friends. He will be missed.
