Ella Marie Enger

Mar 7, 1939 — Aug 5, 2026

Milwaukee

Ella Marie Margaret Enger, age 87, of Milwaukee, passed away on August 5, 2026. She was born on March 7, 1939, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Elvin and Anna (Mueller) Enger.

A devoted and longtime parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Parish, Ella lived her faith through service. She had a generous heart and was always ready to help those in need, consistently placing others before herself.

Ella spent her career in healthcare as a Medical Coding Specialist, working at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital and later for more than 20 years at St. Michael Hospital. She earned her Registered Health Information Administrator Certification, and her dedication to accuracy, compassion, and care touched countless lives.

When spring arrived, Ella could be found at Wagner’s Garden Mart, where she worked for over 25 years managing the outdoor plant area. This was more than a job—it was a place where her love of gardening flourished. She delighted in helping customers, sharing her knowledge, and spending time with her dear friend Cathy. Gardening was one of Ella’s truest passions.

Ella also found joy in many other pursuits. She loved genealogy and enjoyed researching family history with her cousins. Photography was a cherished hobby she shared with her brother Charlie. She was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan—made even more special by trips to the Indy 500 and having a superstar driver in the family. She was also a devoted baseball fan (Go Brewers!) and treasured time spent each year at the Jefferson Car Show and Swap Meet with her dear friend Joyce, her brother Richard and cousin Dan. Above all, Ella cared deeply for her family, friends, and animals, especially her beloved cats. She was a proud member of The Sons of Norway and the Milwaukee Rose Society.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Elvin and Anna, and her brothers Charlie (2017) and Richard (2026). She is survived by her nephew Jacob (Joni Brink) Enger, her niece Michelle (Michael) Brinkman, and her great‑nieces—also her goddaughters—Vanessa and Christina Brinkman. She is also survived by many cousins.

The Enger family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Jenny Rutter, Ella’s dear friend, for her selfless care, concern, and fierce advocacy. Jenny was a rock through this heartbreaking time, even while navigating her own grief. The family also extends appreciation to St. Bernadette Catholic Parish for their continued visits, prayers, and companionship during Ella’s time of need.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:10
