Eugene Washburn

February 11, 1937 — September 13, 2019

Eugene (Gene) Wesley Washburn, age 82, of Menomonee Falls, WI, passed away on Sept 13, 2019. He was born in Montfort, WI on Feb 11, 1937. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Brookfield, WI, at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 28. A luncheon will follow. Gene was blessed with a 57-year marriage, having been joined in matrimony with Mary Francis Vancura on May 5, 1962. He is also survived by his two sons Steven (Cindy) and Michael (Sheila); his three grandchildren Nathan, Benjamin and Anika; his sister Francis Sime; and other family and friends. Gene is preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Anna Frolick, his brothers Fred and Carl, and his sisters Ruth Noyes and Beulah. He completed his BS in Civil Engineering at what is now the University of Wisconsin Platteville before becoming a licensed Professional Engineer and joining the Illinois Department of Transportation in Dixon where he worked for 38.5 years. Gene and Mary spent many of their retirement years living on the Minong Flowage in Northwest Wisconsin. Gene was an exceptionally loving family man who was also passionate about his many hobbies including coaching and watching youth sports, spending time with his grandchildren, nature, fishing and filleting his catch for the entire neighborhood, remodeling, and wood working. If there was a state record for wild blueberry picking, Gene might very well hold it. The family wishes to thank the staff at Dickson Hollow and Seasons Hospice.
