George W. Dusha
George W. Dusha, 98, passed away on Friday, November 12th, 2021 at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota. George was born 18 July, 1923 in Waukesha, Wisconsin to Emmaline and Emil Dusha. He grew up in Waukesha along with his sister, Elsie and two brothers, Francis and Harvey who all eventually served in the U.S. military.
He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 12 November, 1941 and performed duties as a B-17 gunnery instructor and later as a diesel mechanic with assignments in Panama, Germany, Rapid City Army Air Station, South Dakota, and the Aleutian Islands. After honorable discharge in May of 1949, he returned to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to marry the love of his life, Dorothy. They were blessed with three children, Kathleen, Gregory, and John.
One of his favorite stories was that he was a "Charter Member of the "Coast to Coast" Motorcycle Club". Their claim to fame was being able to ride from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean in "One" hour. This was in large due to his assignment to Howard Air Force Base, Panama.
He started working at Downing Box Co. as a warehouseman, later as a fork lift operator at the Kohls food warehouse distribution center in Milwaukee. He retired from Kohls at the age of 62 in 1985. He loved fishing and playing cribbage and taught all his grandchildren the love of the game. George and Dorothy traveled to a number of states to visit siblings, children, and grandchildren. Their trips to Hawaii was the furthest they had ever traveled.
In 2001, they moved to Florida to avoid the cold weather and ease Dorothy's fear of George falling off the roof while shoveling snow. Shortly after settling down in Florida, Dorothy passed away after a medical procedure. Several years later, he met and married his second wife Jan.
George was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and both wives, Dorothy and Jan. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Many thanks to the staff of Peaceful Pines Senior Living Center for the wonderful care they gave George while he lived there.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 1 from 10 AM-12 PM at Schramka Funeral Home, 423 N. Main St., Thiensville, WI. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
