George Schlageter

Passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 6, 2018 at the age of 88 years old. George was born on July 12, 1929 to the late George Sr. and late Ida Schlageter. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years Dorothy Schlageter (nee Vorpahl). Also preceded in death by cousins Ruth Penning (nee Schultrich) and Esther Damkoehler (nee Schultrich). Survived by son Tom Schlageter and daughter Diane Wineland, loving grandfather of Leah, Madeline and Olivia Schlageter, Bailey, Sierra, and Bradley Wineland, sister-in law Ruth Vorpahl and other relatives, friends and co-workers. George graduated from MSOE in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and started working for Outboard Marine Corp until he retired in 1990. George spent his 28 years of retirement traveling, reading and working on various science and astronomy projects. Special thanks to granddaughter Leah who helped take care of him after he suffered his stroke three years ago. Memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
