Harold, known affectionately as "Bud", passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 20, 2025, likely dreaming of bicycling along idyllic tree-lined rail trails with family and friends. Harold was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1930. A graduate of the University of Toledo, he played clarinet in a swing band and later in the United States Marine Corps Band from 1950 to 1952. In 1954, he married Joan Lois (Schmuck), whom he loved dearly. Together, they raised four children: Cindy, Richard, Michael, and Steven. Harold worked in sales and became the regional manager for Casual Corner until his retirement in 1986. In retirement, he devoted his time helping loved ones with renovations or maintaining his many rental houses. It was not uncommon to see his clothing, hats, or hands splattered with paint - a reflection of the do-it-yourself spirit he brought to every project. A restless busybody with a keen, inquisitive nature, Harold was exceptionally sharp and could make even the most mundane task seem like a fascinating adventure. He enjoyed hobbies that kept his mind and body active, from tending to his backyard orchard, bicycling across the U.S. and abroad, to tapping his fingers to a familiar tune. His lifelong love for music extended to his grandchildren, whom he encouraged to play instruments under his tutelage throughout their childhood years and beyond. He was equally happy exploring museums, traveling down rivers by cruise boat, or striking up a conversation with a stranger - turning every interaction into an opportunity to connect and learn. Regardless of the hobby, Harold poured passion and determination into everything he did. Preceded in death by parents Ethel and Roy, and brother Robert. He is survived by his wife Joan, children Cindy, Richard (Laura), Michael (Linda), and Steven (Dory); grandchildren Katrina, Abbey, Ally, and Kyle; and great-grandchild Loren. He is also survived by his brother Tom Schnell, sister Carol (Hagadorn), nieces and nephews. A celebration of life is planned for May 17 2:00PM at the 24 Hour Club, 153 Green Bay Rd, Thiensville, WI 53092.
