Herman "Herm" Buechel

February 2, 1938 — February 17, 2015

Herman M. "Herm" Buechel Herm was born into this life on February 2, 1938. Confident in God's love and grace, Herm was born into eternal life on February 17, 2015, after battling a year long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Martha, and his brother, Anthony. He is survived by his wife, Ann (nee Kovochich), his sister, Brunhilde (James) Courtney, his brother, Thomas (Susan) Buechel and his children Julie (Michael) Schinzer, David Buechel, Kathryn (Alexander) Smith, and Thomas (Kari) Buechel. He was also the "Proud Papa" of his grandchildren, Henry, Piper, Grace, Hunter and Blaise. Herm is further survived by many relatives, friends, co-workers and former students, who will miss him dearly. Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 pm on Saturday February 21, 2015 at Old St. Mary Parish, 844 N. Broadway, Milwaukee, WI 53202. Visitation Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until time of Mass. Herm received his Bachelor's degree in 1960 from St. Norbert College, where he was captain of the football team. In 1964, Herm received his Master's degree in Education Administration from Indiana University. His teaching career began at Messmer High School and continued to Cedarburg High School. He served as a teacher and administrator at both institutions. He also served as football coach at Messmer High School. Herm's career included business, as well as education, and he spent his later years in the corrugated container business. In 2013, he retired from Great Northern Corporation, where he worked closely with his son, David. Herm was often described as a "Player/Coach" to the younger salesmen. While successful in business, Herm was always a teacher and a coach at heart. He influenced and inspired many of us with his work ethic, his strength and his integrity. To those of us in despair over his loss, Herm would probably just tell us to "tough it out and get back in the game." Thank you, Herm. We love you, and we will miss you. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Herm's memory to Messmer School Development or the House of Peace.
