Irene Anita Pahule, R.N., B.S., O.C.N., age 93, passed away Monday afternoon, May 12, 2025, in Milwaukee, WI. Anita, as she was known, was born on May 29, 1931, in Hays, Kansas to Jacob and Victoria (Befort) Herklotz.
Anita was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Donald Pahule, her siblings Margaret, Edward, Agnes, Joanna, and her son, Thomas, and his wife, Mary Beth.
Anita is survived by her son, Edward (Karyn), and grandsons, Brett, Brandon, and Kurt.
As a child, Anita grew up during the infamous Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, which helped form her passion for helping others in need. She graduated from Girls Catholic High School in 1949. Anita then moved to Fond du Lac, WI, graduating from St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. (In 1981, she received her B.S. from the College of St. Francis, Joliet, IL.)
Within a year of graduation, Anita was the Head Nurse of the OB & New Born Nursery at St. Anthony's Hospital, Hays, KS. A year later, she was the Supervisor of the Orthopedic Clinic at St. Anthony's Hospital, Hays, KS.
In 1955, she moved to Milwaukee, WI and worked as Staff Nurse EENT Deaconess Hospital and quickly became their Pediatric Head Nurse. By 1978, she was the Clinic Supervisor Radiation Oncology & Clinical Coordinator Chemotherapy at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Anita became the Nursing Supervisor Radiation Oncology and Director of Clinical Research at Milwaukee County Medical Complex and the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI.
Anita spent her life furthering her education. Gave over two dozen presentations at Nursing Conferences at Marquette University, St. Josephs School of Radiation Therapy, the Medical College of Wisconsin, and other venues. She spent time in Guatemala doing Nursing Missionary work in 2000.
In 1990, Anita published "Radiation Therapy in Pediatric Oncology Parent Handbook" to help parents of children diagnosed with cancer.
Anita was a loving mother and nurturing grandmother, loved by all who knew her.
