J. David "Dave" Reed

December 27, 1948 — January 31, 2023

J. David Reed, 74, of Menomonee Falls, WI died peacefully and was carried to his eternal home in heaven on January 31, 2023, with his family at his side. Dave was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on December 27, 1948 to the late J. Vernon and Olive Reed (nee Conner). Dave's family moved to the Milwaukee area and then to Brookfield, where he grew up. A special moment for the family was when Vern and Ollie became naturalized citizens of the United States. One of Dave's childhood passions was Boy Scouts where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He continued his involvement as an adult in a leadership role when his sons were old enough to join the Boy Scouts. Dave attended Spencerian College (now Concordia University), working several jobs to earn his way through school. Dave married Sheryl Buttke (Shery) on May 21, 1977 and raised three children in Menomonee Falls. Dave enjoyed hunting and fishing, going on many fishing trips with his friends. After graduating from Spencerian College he worked at Northwestern National Insurance for several years. Dave later shifted career paths and began working at Schwister Ford in Menomonee Falls – later Gordie Boucher Ford, where many of his customers became friends. Dave is survived by his wife Shery, daughter Kristy Reed of Kewaskum, son J. Daniel of Menomonee Falls, and son J. Steven of Glendale. He is further survived by grandchildren James, Joshua, Joe and David, his brother J. Edwin (Cindy) & sister Carol, brother-in-law Michael Buttke (Linda) and sister-in-law Judi Gehl., numerous other nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Olive & J. Vernon Reed, parents-in-law Clarence & Ester Buttke, niece Amy Gulland and brother-in-law Richard Gehl. Dave was diagnosed with Lymphoma summer of 2022 and became very passionate in his support for St. Jude's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family would like all memorial gifts sent to St. Jude's. Per Dave's wishes, no funeral will take place. A family celebration of life will be held in the summer. Dave's family would especially like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and aides in the ICU of Froedtert Hospital in Menomonee Falls who gave him wonderful care and showed amazing kindness and compassion to the entire family.
