James "Jim" Brandenburg
January 30, 1967 — October 19, 2023
James (Jim) Andrew Brandenburg was born in Monroe, Wisconsin on January 30, 1967, to Fritz and Betty Brandenburg. Jim grew up in Beloit, Wisconsin and lived his adult years in the Milwaukee area. On Thursday, October 19, 2023, we said goodbye to our beloved Jim. He will be deeply missed by all that were lucky enough to have him in their lives. He passed peacefully at the age of 56, surrounded by family.
His smile lit up a room, his charisma drew you in, and his kindness and compassion made you feel important. Jim was a one-of-a-kind son, husband, father, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. He was a loving dad who opened an amazing world to his children by sharing his passion for the outdoors and nature, and he was the world's best sidewalk chalk artist and sketch artist who opened up imaginary animals and people and places into their daily lives. He was a son who loved and cared deeply for his parents; making them feel special, cooking delicious meals, bringing surprise treats to the lake home. He had a passion for life and music that he shared with his brothers. He had an amazing gift for personally connecting with his nieces and nephews and making them feel special. He was a standout athlete at Beloit Memorial High School, with the ability to hit a baseball long and far, garnering all-conference and all-state honors. He graduated from University of Wisconsin Milwaukee with a double major in English and German. He was the original American Picker. He was a gardener extraordinaire before there was an HGTV channel. He had amazing culinary skills before there was a Food Network. He had an eye and talent for photography and captured many breathtaking photos throughout his life. He impulsively jumped in to help friends and strangers alike, with a penchant for helping those in need. Jim spent 22 years at Robert Half International as a senior leader, helping his company and his clients be successful and building meaningful relationships along the way.
Jim is survived by his father and mother Fritz and Betty Brandenburg, his wife Amy Brandenburg, his children Elvis Brandenburg (Amy), Drake Brandenburg (Amy), Lucy Brandenburg, Edward Brandenburg, his brother Jeff Brandenburg (sister-in-law Sharon Brandenburg), his brother Andrew Brandenburg (sister-in-law Jill Brandenburg), his nieces Emma Brandenburg (Jeff), Elizabeth Brandenburg (Andrew), Lydia Brandenburg (Andrew), and his nephew Ben Brandenburg (Jeff).
There will be a small private family gathering for Jim in the coming weeks. The Brandenburg family will host a celebration of Jim's life in the summer of 2024 in the Milwaukee area in a park, with music and games and laughter. Arrangements will be announced in the spring.
It is the family's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the GoFundMe page set-up for Jim's young children
