Jean L. Lewis, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Sunday, November 1st, 2026. Jean was born on Wednesday, October 7th, 1931, to Walter and Mathilda Hanke, who have preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Howard Hanke, and sister, Daryle Hanke.
Jean's love for life and her family were evident in the way she cherished her time with them. She celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary with her devoted husband, Richard Lewis, in April, marking a milestone of love, companionship, and resilience. Together, they built a family filled with warmth and laughter.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Lewis, and her children, Tom Lewis, Mike Lewis, Greg Lewis (Geno), and Steve Lewis (Deb). She was a proud grandmother to Brad Lewis, Kelly Lewis, Laura Lewis, Jason Lewis, Kristin Lewis, Kirstin Carroll, and Eric Lewis, and, joyously, a great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren. Jean's family was her pride and joy, and she took immense delight in being part of their lives.
Jean retired from a fulfilling career at Singer/Eaton and enjoyed her retirement to the fullest. She found great joy in the simple pleasures of life—watching birds at her feeders, cooking and baking for her family, and admiring the audacious squirrels that frequented her backyard. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Schramka Funeral Home in Brookfield, WI, on Friday, November 13th, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life service will be held at the same location, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am, where we will gather to honor Jean's memory and the wonderful life she led.
