John Alexander Brodie, son of Homer (Ping) Brodie and Lorena Forcier, died at home surrounded by family on December 17
th
. He lived for God and his country. He is survived by one brother, Dan, his children, Jeff, Tami Tess, Mike, and John (Boo), seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. He also has a brother in arms from the US Marine Corp. Paul Smith from the USS Los Angeles Task Force 77.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen (Jefferies), his son Scott, his brothers Doc and Dick.
John was born on September 5, 1932, in Eau Claire, WI. He graduated from Janesville High School and then went on to graduate from UW LaCrosse. He married Mary Ellen Jefferies, and moved to Florence, WI where he had his first head coaching job. He also played semi pro fast pitch softball in Iron Mountain, MI. He moved on to Ladysmith, WI and taught most of the area children to swim. Monroe, WI was his next stop, where he started the 5

and 6
th
grade youth touch football and city wrestling tournament as well as junior high tackle football and was president of the summer swim club. He then moved to Mequon, WI to coach Homestead football, wrestling and girls track. He was the first coach of the North-South All-Star game. Retirement came, but not from coaching. He was an assistant coach at Germantown High School and then the Milwaukee Express, Semi Pro team. From there he went to Sweden to coach in the European Pro Football League as the head coach for the Halmstead Eagles. His final coaching job was in Half Moon Bay, CA.
He worked in the pro shop at MeeKwon Golf Course for over 25 years. Other adventures along the way include taking high school kids on canoe trips to The Boundary Waters and working the Olympia Village sports training camps and LaCrosse football camps.
He loved his family and his players!
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 11
th
from 11 AM to 1 PM at Schramka Funeral Home, 423 N. Main St., Thiensville. Memorial service to follow at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the ALS Association are appreciated.
