John Kircher

July 26, 1938 — June 23, 2025

John Joseph Kircher, born to Joseph J. and Martha M. Kircher on July 26th 1938, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on June 23rd, 2025 in Mequon, Wisconsin. He was 86. John, or Jack as he was know to his family and friends, is survived by his loving wife Marcia (née Adamkiewicz), daughter Mary Kay Demaio (husband Michele) and son Joseph (wife Jeanne). He is also survived by his four beautiful grandchildren - Michele, Gabriella, John, and Peter (wife Stephanie). After attending Marquette University High School ('56) Jack received a Bachelor of Arts from Marquette University ('60) and a Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School ('63). He joined the Wisconsin Bar in 1963 and entered private practice at the Pauly Law Office in Port Washington, Wisconsin ('63-'67). He then served as Research Director for the Defense Research Institute ('67-'80). While at DRI he discovered his true calling as a Professor of Law at Marquette University Law School ('70-'15) where he channeled the spirt of Professor Kingsfield of The Paper Chase. During his tenure he participated in a faculty exchange program with the University of Queensland Law School in Australia. He also served on the State Bar of Section (Reporter, '76-'86), the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners ('87-'92, Chair, '90-'91). In addition he served as Editor for the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel Quarterly ('91-'08). Jack was a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Wisconsin, American Judiciary Society, American Law Institute, Association Internationale de Driot des Assurances, and the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners. In addition to numerous law review articles he authored Punitive Damages Law and Practice (with James D. Ghiardi, '99) and Punitive Damages Law and Practice 2d (with Christine M. Wiseman, '00). Jack was an avid golfer and passionate fan of Maquette University Basketball. The family is grateful for the incredible skill and dedication of the caregivers at Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital and Horizon's Lawless Family Hospice in Mequon. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be sent to the Marquette University Law School.  A requiem mass at the Church of the Gesu, on 1145 W Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee,  on July 27, 2025 10:30am.  A second requiem mass will also be held on December 26, 2025 at 12:05 pm. A third requiem will be held on December 27, 2025 at, Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2750 W Mequon Road, Mequon, WI, 53092.,at 4:30pm.
