Kathleen Mccarthy

May 31, 1927 — November 19, 2024

Kathleen F. McCarthy, 97, peacefully passed away on November 19, 2024, after a brief illness. Born on May 31, 1927, Kay lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end and touched the lives of many people along the way. Kay was born to Margaret and Leo Fox and raised with her older brother Don in the small village of Camillus, New York. She grew up in tumultuous times, with her childhood shaped by the Great Depression and her teens shaped by WWII. At a time when it was somewhat unusual, Kay pursued a college education at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, graduating in June of 1948. Two weeks later, she married "Mac," and together they raised five children: Mary Margaret (Gene), Kathleen Anne (Greg), Anne Marie (Ralph), Daniel Joseph (Jan), and James Edward (Sheryl). Shortly after the birth of their youngest, the family moved halfway across the country to Wisconsin. There, Kay was involved in school, church, and social activities as she worked as a stay-at-home mother and raised the children. Then, in 1985, at the age of 58, she joined the workforce, first at a collection agency owned by her son-in-law Ralph and later at Cardinal Stritch University, where she rose through the ranks to become Executive Assistant to the Dean of Students. Although Kay was fiercely independent, driving until she was 89 and living in her own house until she was 95, her greatest joy was in her family, their accomplishments, and their legendary gatherings. Kay was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, William H. McCarthy (Mac), and is survived by their five children, five grandchildren (Mark, Matt, David, Katie, and Ellie), six great-grandchildren, and ten nieces and nephews. Kay's life will be celebrated with a funeral service at the Guardian Angel Chapel within the St. Camillus Community at 10101 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53226. The funeral will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, December 7, preceded by a brief viewing period for those wishing to pay their respects. Kay's life was enriched by the residents and staff at St. Camillus (and she certainly enlivened the community). Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Camillus arts and music programs, care of: The Order of St. Camillus Foundation, Attention Chris Sosnay, 10101 W. Wisconsin Ave., Wauwatosa, WI  53226.
