Laura Toebes

April 22, 1963 — December 31, 2021

Laura Quevy Toebes of Cedarburg, WI passed away on New Year's Eve, 12/31/2021 after a courageous battle against brain cancer. Laura was born Laura Anne Quevy on 4/22/1963 to Kenneth and Annette (nee Jaeck) Quevy of Cedarburg, WI. Laura spent her formative years in Cedarburg where she graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1981. Laura went on to attend the University of Wisconsin at Madison graduating with a marketing degree in 1985. In January 1995 – while working as an account representative for Substance Abuse Management, Inc. in Milwaukee – Laura was assigned a new account whose Safety Director was Ed Toebes. Laura hated Ed. In the beginning she tried to give the account away, but she had no such luck. Left with her undesirable account, Laura clearly explained to Ed who the boss was in the relationship. Having put Ed in his place, their relationship went from one of business to one of personal interest. After a long-distance courtship through 1995 (long before common cell phones and the internet) Ed made the move to Wisconsin where he and Laura wed on December 28, 1996. To their union were born Grace Dorothy and Alex Michael in 1998 and 2001 respectively. The couple moved several times to support the goal of Laura raising Alex and Grace in the home. That goal was accomplished. Raising their children at home was the most important task they could accomplish in their lives. In 2010, Laura's father Ken suffered a stroke. Ed and Laura returned to Cedarburg to assist in Ken's final years. During this time Laura found her true life calling. She became a classroom aide supporting students at Woodview Elementary School in Grafton, WI. To the "kiddos" she was Mrs. Toebes – and they loved Mrs. Toebes. Laura had an affinity for horses. She had them most of her life. Laura told Ed in 1995: It is a package deal…I come with a horse. Little did he know what that meant…. through the years the herd grew from 1 to 5. Laura was generous with her time and resources. She trained several young ladies how to ride and took great pleasure in their accomplishments. She also supported her Grafton school in an annual fund-raising auction by selling "Horse riding with Mrs. Toebes". It was the top auction item every year. Laura was preceded in death by her father Ken Quevy and brother-in-law Mike Toebes. Left to cherish the memory of Laura are her husband Ed of Cedarburg, WI; her mother Annette Quevy of West Bend, WI; her mother-in-law Pauline Toebes of Weslaco, TX; father-in- law Henry Toebes and wife Carolyn Toebes of Tampa, FL; her daughter Grace and son Alex; hundreds of "kiddos" and friends. At this time there are no services pending. Laura and Ed agreed the Toebes family will have a celebration of life gathering at their home in the summer of 2022. Announcement of the date will follow in spring 2022. Laura had great faith and knowledge that Jesus Christ was her Lord and Savior. Over their years together, Ed and Laura came to understand: We are not in control of our destiny. We are doing the work of God at His pleasure. We are placed where we are because God put us there intentionally for his purpose – and we are immortal until our work for Him is done.
