Lucas Servais, age 27, of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, passed away at home, surrounded by the family who loved him and the dogs who desired to be by his side.
Lucas was born in Racine, WI, to Mark and Irma. He was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age 4. His sharp wit and loving attitude were a strong force in his personality.
Lucas was, in the best possible way, a smartass. He had a laugh like a seal with a sore throat — and once you heard it, you’d do anything to hear it again. It was loud, unfiltered, and absolutely infectious. He danced in his wheelchair to music that mattered to him, and he never once cared who was watching.
He was a punk rock soul. Teenage Bottlerocket, Green Day, Sum 41, The Offspring, Ozzy Osbourne, and Sick Puppies were the soundtrack of his life. He was exposed to a wide world of music, and he often went to concerts and shows.
Lucas devoured worlds. He listened to audiobooks - the Dune series, the Nicoli Gonnella books, and biographies of Robin Williams and Ozzy Osbourne. He loved the Star Wars universe, Game of Thrones, and The Boys. He was fascinated by how things were made, drawn to history, and endlessly curious.
When Lucas was younger, he loved to draw and create art — and it was his mom, Irma, who sat beside him and drew and crafted right alongside him. Irma shared more time with Lucas than any other person. They went deep into conversations about everything — his life, the world, whatever was on his mind — and those moments of connection defined their bond. She made him his favorites: pizza, hot dogs, and Mexican food, and when he was younger he’d try to help her in the kitchen. Irma always supported his events related to his condition, and she made sure he had every opportunity to attend camps and activities — especially MDA camp, which Lucas truly enjoyed. Their time together doing his daily cares became its own kind of closeness that only the two of them fully understood.
Lucas loved to game. He could beat most new titles in a matter of days and was drawn to deep, sprawling universes — RPGs, sci-fi, fantasy, anything he could lose himself in. He and his dad played Civilization 7 together whenever they could find the time — building empires side by side. Mario Kart and Nintendo games were their shared territory, too. To those who played alongside Lucas, he was a loyal teammate and a relentless competitor.
Lucas loved animals — all of them, deeply and without reservation. He’d watch anything with animals in it: WildEarth safaris that helped him decompress, Cesar Millan, Jackson Galaxy, Too Cute — if a creature was on screen, Lucas was locked in. But his truest animal bonds were with his dogs, Gracie and Gia. Gia would be his therapy partner in bed, and Gracie would fall asleep in his room while he played games. They were part of each other’s symbiotic routines day and night. Those dogs understood him in ways that didn’t require words.
Lucas had a huge heart and more love to give than the world always made room for.
Lucas is survived by his parents, Mark and Irma Servais; his sister, Zoe Servais (Tori); his brother, Richard Carbajal (Madisen); his grandparents, Steve and Carol Servais; his uncles and aunts, David Carbajal (Annette), Diana Carbajal, and Sylvia Rugh (Jason); his nephews, Jovani, Eric, and Isaiah; his niece, Lilliana; his godparents, Melissa Carbajal and Rob Meeks; along with his countless cousins and their families.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Crescencio and Maria Carbajal, and his uncle, Mario Carbajal.
The family extends gratitude to the caregivers and medical professionals who supported Lucas throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers or donations, if you have love to share and can commit to the responsibility, adopt a rescue animal. Lucas would have wanted nothing more than to know his life had helped another creature find a home.
