Mequon

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Mari Schmidt on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, at the age of 78. Mari was born on a crisp Sunday, February 15th, 1948, and lived a life filled with dedication, love, and community service.
Mari is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Robert and cherished son Josh, along with his beloved significant other Janet Schiff and her son James Johnson. She was a beloved aunt to Brian (Holly) and Chris (Rebecca) Remberg, Scott (Shelly) Neuenfeld, Michelle (Todd) Patterson, Stacy (Tim) Stolz, and Matt (Tracie) Neuenfeld. Mari was a dear sister-in-law to Joel Remberg and Joy Neuenfeld. Her legacy lives on in her nieces, nephews, as well as many grand nieces and nephews whom she adored and adored her back.
Mari was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Lorraine Neuenfeld (Patzen), brothers Edward and Gary Neuenfeld, and sister Julie Remberg whom she held dear in her heart.
Mari lived a life dedicated to community service. Since 1983, Mari has been active alongside her husband in the Ozaukee County Fair, and in Lindenwood 4-H club since 1986. For many of those years, she served as leader for the Sheep, Poultry and Goat projects. She took pride in her work in the Blue Ribbon Sale at the County Fair, and for many years oversaw the Sheep and Poultry facilities. Her passion for animals, farming, and helping young people knew no bounds. This passion extended to the family farm, where Mari would raise all sorts of animals over the last four decades.
For 18 years, Mari served as accountant and cook at the Mequon Christian Daycare Center, where she was known for her hard work and warm heart. In recent years, Mari was active as bookkeeper for the Mequon-Thiensville Optimist Club. Mari also worked for the city of Mequon in the city Treasurer’s office.
Mari’s kindness, generosity, and devotion to her family, friends and the young people of Ozaukee County will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her spirit of love and diligence to those she cared for will always remain an inspiration.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Schramka-Densow Funeral Home in Thiensville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Mari’s memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting her spirit of giving.
Mari's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
