Mary O'Connor

October 21, 1931 — January 12, 2024

Mary M. O'Connor, dearly loved mother and grandmother, entered eternal life at the age of 92 on Friday, January 12, 2024. Mary was born on October 21, 1931 in Chicago to Francis Herbert and Marie (Reuland) Herbert. Mary entered nurses training after high school and after raising her children, was a nurse at Lakeland Hospital in Elkhorn, WI for many years. She loved being a nurse and continued to care for others' health even through the last days of her life. Those keeping Mary's memory alive include her children Marie, Brian (Jennifer Dungan), Jim (Michele), Ellen (Michael) Haggenjos and Margaret (Patrick) Brennan and her grandchildren Micaela and Matthew Haggenjos. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward and their son Kevin. Mary will be remembered for her intelligence and love of learning, her great humor even through difficult times and her admirable strength in surviving her husband's death and raising 6 children as a widow. She loved to be silly and have a good laugh, enjoyed a walk in the woods, fishing on a lake, traveling with family and friends and a good glass of wine. Above all, Mary loved her children and grandchildren and time spent with family. She will be profoundly missed. A private celebration of her life will be held at a future date by her immediate family. If desired, memorials are suggested to Doctor's Without Borders or the charity of your choice.
