Mildred Martel

December 9, 1946 — February 19, 2024

In Memoriam: Mildred Mae Martel It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mildred "Millie" Martel on February 19, 2024. Her commitment to family formed the core of her existence. A beloved wife of over 50 years to Raymond Martel, a fierce mother to Brian Martel, and a loving grandmother to Liam, Aiden, Nolan, and Kate Martel. Her love extended beyond blood, as she welcomed Brian's wife, Hayley Martel, into her heart as a true daughter. Born on December 9, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland where she lived until 1972 when Ray and Millie embraced the spirit of the Lone Star State and moved to Houston, Texas. A significant chapter of their life started in Katy, Texas, living there for nearly four decades before settling in Dallas in 2013. They moved to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin in 2021, a suburb of Milwaukee to be near Brian and Hayley and dote on her grandchildren. Everywhere she went she made fast friends and a lasting impression on those around her. She dedicated herself to teaching special needs children at Katy High School, leaving an enduring impact on the children she taught. Millie's career was intertwined with Ray's, a two-time National Championship Winning Drag Racer, co-founding Martel Brothers Racing with Ray and his brother Charlie Martel. Their legacy is etched into the history of the drag racing world. As a member of D.R.A.W. (Drag Racing Association for Women), Millie extended her generosity by sending cards of support to injured racers, showcasing her empathy and caring nature continuing on until just last month. In the midst of our sorrow, we remember Millie for not only her strength and love but also for her selflessness and generosity. A memorial service to celebrate Millie's life will be held on Sunday, February 25 th at 12pm CST at Schramka Funeral Home in Brookfield, WI. Please join the family in person or on Facebook Live to view the service at https://www.facebook.com/SchramkaFuneralHomes/ In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to D.R.A.W. in Millie's honor, http://www.drawfasthelp.org/donate.html . May Millie's soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire us all.
