Nicole has been a blessing to us. She enriched the lives of parents and family. She was the fulfillment of a longing for a child. She needed care and guidance that required the skills of both Mom and Dad. She was a companion to Dad for camping and nature hikes, delighted to cook with Mom, learned art and craft skills from Mom and Dad with which she made special hand-made gifts for relatives. She loved and diligently cared for the family pets. She kept parents close to each other in the midst of their differences. She had an infectious smile and laugh that lit up the room. She cheered up ailing relatives both in-home and in hospital, attended family celebrations and loved group activities. Her smile and laugh touched the hearts of those who knew her. She "evangelized" through a simple faith. She attended church, sang in the choir, lifting the congregation's prayer. She is the reason why SPRED (Special Religious Education for people with special needs) came to Our Lady of Divine Providence, which has touched deeply the lives of some thirty families. She motivated Fr. Jerry to accept the invitation to begin SPRED there. She also served as an acolyte to the joy of the pastors. She opened our eyes to see God's face, opened our ears to hear the call of the Gospel, opened our hearts by teaching us to love God in people with special needs. Her love of sharing music to uplift others continued to grow. Seniors were her "comfort people". She loved being around them and sang in a second choir, visiting nursing homes and assisted living. While her piano skills were not that of Beethoven, she persisted and grew in this too and enjoyed playing for others and glowed with pride when asked to play. She enjoyed life and never turned down an opportunity for a new experience and she especially enjoyed having parties and playing games. Her formal education culminated in culinary training at Shepherd's College, of which she was very proud. Unbeknownst to many, her learned sous skills prepared many delights for family and friends. She has been no small gift from God. We rejoice for her relief of sufferings from illness, her enjoyment in the company of grandparents, aunts and uncles, brother and friends and we offer our pain as a prayer in thanks to God for placing her in our lives.
