Nunzio Italiano

February 17, 1938 — June 25, 2021

Nunzio "Nuni" Joseph Italiano was born to eternal life on June 25, 2021, at his home in West Bend, WI, (formerly Brown Deer, WI) after fighting like heck for months not to let his bum ticker dictate to him when his time would come. His wife Carol (nee Aschenbrenner) and son Steve Italiano (Barbara) were by his side. In addition to his wife and son, Nuni is survived by children Karen (Rich Offen), Julie (Dave Thomas), Jodi (Dan Johnson), and Marcus Carpentier (Vivia), his sister-in-law Patti Nault and his grandchildren: Dominic Thomas (Meghan), Erin Thomas, Maddie Thomas, Jonathon Thomas, Joseph Hartz, Kady Johnson, Sophie Johnson, Julia Carpentier, Kellie Carpentier and a host of his beloved cousins whom he adored and who will miss "Uncle" Nuni. Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1938, Nunzio was the only child of Dominic Italiano and Angeline Sanfilippo Italiano. After the family relocated permanently to Milwaukee, Nuni attended Lincoln High School where he lettered in two football and baseball, graduating in 1956. There he met life-long friends and Darlene Nault whom he married in 1962 after completing an Associate's degree in accounting at MATC. He worked as a mechanic at several Standard Oil gas stations, even partnering to own M & N Auto on 8th and Atkins. Responding to his wife's health concerns, Nuni sold the business and took a job as a mechanic at AO Smith, where he worked for 35 years, eventually becoming a supervisor. Not one for self-indulgent hobbies in retirement, Nuni sought a job as a maintenance man for Guaranty Bank, even setting up offices for them across the country until finally calling it quits at the age of 73. A part of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish for 50 years, Nuni was part of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society, happy to flip pancakes for their Sunday breakfasts. After Darlene passed in 1994, Nuni met Carol Aschenbrenner, marrying in 1998. Nuni and Carol became globetrotters enjoying trips to Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland, Italy, Alaska, Hawaii and traversing all 50 continental states except two. They enjoyed weekly bingo and in the theater. Nuni was lovingly and devotedly cared for by his family in his last months, supported by other family members and Cedar Lake Hospice, to whom the family is grateful for their compassionate service. Nuni will be dearly missed, leaving a big hole in all our hearts. We are comforted, knowing that there is no doubt he has been welcomed at the pearly gates by all those who have gone before him and by the Lord's firm handshake greeting him with, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." (Mathew 25:21) Visitation Thursday, July 1, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, 7152 N. 41st St., Milwaukee, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am.
