Onnie (Oneta) was born July 20, 1935, to Jane Etta McBride and Fred Henry in Tougaloo, Mississippi.
She lived there most of her teenage life, she was a hard worker, kind, loving person. She married Ernest Stevenson. He preceded her in death. To that union 9 children were born.
Onnie was employed at Chicago, Illinois Conrad Hilton Hotel where she met Eugene Baker. Eugene and Onnie were united in marriage March 24, 1981. Onnie found her faith and became a Jehovah's witnesses in the year 1969 until present. She was a fulltime pioneer. Onnie enjoyed going out in field service to talk to people about Jehovah. Onnie also liked fishing, gardening, and cooking. The outdoors was her favorite place to be, until Onnie's departure.
Onnie was preceded in death by husband Eugene Baker. Children: EvaMae, Selestine, Henry, Eugene III, David, Dazetta, Eddie and Howard. Siblings Johnnie, Kattie, Missouri, Lucille, Dessiree, Ella Mae.
Onnie left to mourn her sisters: RoseLee, Lena Preal, MaeFrance, Marylee. Brothers: Lee Edward Lewis, sister-in-law Elizabeth Mims. Children: Johnny (Antoinette), Milderd (Alex), Ray (Marchon), Edwin, Charles, Michael (Karen), Henry (Linda), Doretha, Bernice, Robert, a host of nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other family and friends.
We would like to acknowledge that Selestine Stevenson will be reunited with her mother Onnie Barber-Baker today. Also, we would like to thank Susanna for the wonderful care she had given Onnie for the past 8years.
