Patricia J. Sargent (nee Ternes) died peacefully following a surgery, in Milwaukee on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the age of 77. Her loss was unexpected, and her family, while heartbroken by her absence, is heartened that she is free of the pain that took away her freedom and independence over the last few years of her life.
Born in 1946 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Patricia grew up in New Berlin, WI. In 1961, she met the love of her life, Michael Sargent and graduated from New Berlin West High School in 1964. Pat and Mike were married on Dec. 31, 1966. Pat was always the brightest light in the room – sharing her bright smile and a hug with everyone who crossed the threshold of her home. Those guests often brought yet another bunny keepsake as a gift, adding to a never-ending trove of planters, pictures, painting, mugs and more representing her favorite animal.
Nothing made Pat happier than spending time with family and friends, sharing laughs, drinks and rowdy games of Sheepshead. If she wasn't hosting her family of three brothers, two sisters and dozens of nieces and nephews during the holidays, she was in the kitchen cooking up a dish for the family to take to their house. While she loved big gatherings often hosting parties for friends, family and co-workers. She always found time for every guest and enjoyed introducing guests to each other creating new friendships for everyone. She made sure to find out what was going on with everyone since she saw them last and always had a library of greeting cards at the ready to send for any occasion she learned of.
The only thing that Pat loved as much as her family and friends was rooting for her favorite teams – Brewers, Packers and Bucks – or rocking out to her favorite music – Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and U2 just to name a few -- fishing, going to concerts and sharing her joy with everyone around her. When the weather warmed, nothing made her happier than heading to the lakefront for Summerfest every day she could make it.
Pat worked in the insurance industry making many lifelong friends along the way. After retirement, Pat enjoyed doting on her beloved cat of 15 years, Miss Kitty and her grandchildren, Max and Emme, visiting as often as she could.
Patricia was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Ternes (nee Johnson), her father, Eugene Ternes and her step mother, Rosemary Ternes. Pat is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Michael; her children Sandra (partner, Scott Fossen) of Germantown, Wis. and Nicholas (Jessica) of Eagan, Minn., her siblings, Jeff (Yvonne) Ternes, of Wauwatosa, Wis., Jennifer (Craig) Simons, of Crystal Lake, Ill., John; (Gail) Kuech, of Deerfield, Wis., Tom (Dee) Kuech, of Madison, Wis. and Amy (Tim Duket) Martin, of Cape Cod, Mass.; grandchildren, Max and Emerson Sargent, of Eagan, Minn.; and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children.
A private family gathering will be held at Schramka Funeral Home in Menomonee Falls. A celebration of life for Pat's many friends and family will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 13 at Three Cellars, N72W13400 Lund Ln, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Elmbrook Humane Society, which brought her together with her cat, Gracie.
