Paula Ann Burks (née Bowens), age 64, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Born on July 18, 1961, in the same city she called home throughout her life, Paula left a lasting impression on all who knew her through her creativity, dedication, and vibrant spirit.
Paula served her community with distinction throughout her professional life. She worked for Milwaukee County as an administrative assistant in the HEITDA division, where her organizational skills and commitment to public service were deeply valued. Prior to that role, she contributed to the Legal Aid Society, supporting efforts to ensure access to justice for those in need.
Before embarking on her civilian career, Paula proudly served in the United States Navy as a librarian. Her time in the military reflected her lifelong love of learning and discipline—qualities that would continue to shape her personal and professional endeavors.
A woman of many talents and passions, Paula was a gifted jazz singer whose voice brought joy to countless listeners. She sang in choirs and embraced music as both a personal passion and a way to connect with others. Her love of fitness was equally strong; she was athletic and dedicated to exercise throughout her life. An amazing cook and hostess, any gathering at her home was marked with a beautiful table, a welcome smile and delicious food. Whether through movement or melody, Paula expressed herself with energy and grace.
Her creativity extended beyond music and cooking into the world of fashion and design. A talented clothing designer and textile artist, Paula had an eye for color, texture, and form. Her artistic work reflected not only technical skill but also a deep sense of individuality and style.

May her memory bring comfort and inspiration to all who carry it forward. A Funeral Service will be held on September 2, 2025, from 04:00 PM to 08:00 PM at Schramka Funeral Home 13220 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield. Visitation from 4pm to 6pm. Service at 6 pm.
