Richard "Dick" LaFond, age 80, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born on August 4, 1945, in Green Bay, Richard was the son of Daniel and Agnes (DeNoble) LaFond. He was a graduate of The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and went on to work as a school psychologist and administrator for the Richfield School District before his retirement.
Richard shared 60 years of marriage with his lifelong sweetheart, LaVerne, whom he first met at a high school pool party—famously beginning their story by tossing her into the pool. Together, they built a life centered on family, adventure, and unwavering support for one another.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; his two sons, Jason (Jaime) LaFond and Andrew (Judy) LaFond; and his beloved granddaughters, Olivia and Madeline LaFond. His is also survived by many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Dr. David J. LaFond, Robert LaFond, and John LaFond; and his sisters, Jeanne Baetke and Janis Sprangers.
Richard lived a full and active life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, road trips, visiting national parks, camping, bowling, playing softball, and card games. He especially cherished time spent at his brother John’s cottage and road tripping and camping with LaVerne. His granddaughters were a light in his life, and it brought him so much joy over the years caring for them, teaching them, and taking them on adventures. In later years, he often reflected on and deeply missed the lifelong friends who had shared in his fishing trips and adventures.
A man of service and community, Richard was a Cub Scout leader and a longtime member of the Thiensville-Mequon Lions Club and Lions Club International. He was especially proud of his 32 years with the club, where he served in many roles, including President, and was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow. He also volunteered at Lions Club festivals and events and served as a dispatcher and transporter for the Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin, earning the Knight of Sight Award for his work.
A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, Richard grew up just blocks from Lambeau Field, where he spent time as a boy playing in the empty fields that would one day become the iconic stadium.
Richard faced life’s challenges with strength and resilience, including battling and overcoming cancer three times.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
