Richard "Dick" Peregrine, retired Athletic Director and coach at Homestead High School, Mequon, passed away December 20, 2014. Born to Paul and Margaret (nee Mueller) on July 29, 1929 and married Patricia (nee Pagel) July 15, 1950.
The leadership Dick provided to students and coaches from the first year Homestead opened in 1959 and throughout his 30 year career, set the framework and standards for the future of Homestead's comprehensive and successful athletics program. He was known for his pursuit of excellence and motivated students and coaches to push the limits of their abilities. He understood the lasting impact coaches have on the development of young people. He was honored in the first group of inductees to the Homestead Athletic Hall of Fame.
Dick's influence was felt beyond the school as he spent three terms as President of the Conference Athletic Directors and as a founding member and first President of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association. He also served as Director of the Milwaukee Bucks summer basketball camps.
Dick's involvement in sport continued after retirement; traveling to play golf with wife, Pat, and as a national champion table tennis player. In the summers he enjoyed his work and friends at Hawthorne Hills Golf Course.
He was a great family man and loved to spend time with his 6 children and their families. Dick is survived by Patricia, his wife of 64 years, children; Kim (Patrick Buechs), Jill (Gary Vanderspool), Holly Doherty (Will Jamison), Lynn (Peter Colgren), Peggy (Michael Spear) and Joel (Melanie Ariens). Loving grandfather to Erin (James Mach), Megan, Lukas, Emma, Cale, Ana, Riley, Dora and Liam.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Dick's name to the Milwaukee Water Commons; an environmental organization promoting protection of our Great Lakes. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday March 21, 2015 at Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 6031 W. Chapel Hill Rd (corner of Highland and Green Bay Rds), Mequon, WI 53097. The family will greet relatives and friends at a reception to be held after the Memorial Service.
