U. S. Army Staff Sergeant Richard Russell passed away Saturday morning June 6th while battling a heart condition. He is survived by his parents Bill and Anita, his sons Jacob and Matthew, his former wife Mary, his service dog Dolly, and all the veterans he dedicated his life to. Additionally, his Army brothers-in-arms SP5 Scott Sauer, MSG Michael Clemens and SGT Jeremy Comer will miss him dearly. Richard was a Military Police Investigator that was deployed to Fort McCoy immediately following the events of September 11th 2001, serving in the 6015th Garrison Support Unit. He was later deployed to Iraq with the 79th Military Police Company (Minnesota). He served 2 tours of duty in Iraq where he received multiple commendations including the Merritorious Service Medal for his service. This was the norm for Staff Sergeant Russell throughout his 18 years of military service. His greatest honor was serving as an investigator following the events at Abu Ghraib, Iraq.
