Richard "Dick" Raymond Sykes, 69, passed away on March 8, 2025 at Aurora St. Lukes Medical Center in Milwaukee just three days shy of his 70
th
birthday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate staff in the St. Lukes MRICU for their exceptional care and support.
Born in Milwaukee on March 11, 1955, Dick was a proud Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. His love of sports and coaching, particularly baseball, defined much of his life. He was an exceptional player and coach, earning the respect of many in the community. He also dedicated his life to teaching, touching the lives of countless students throughout his thirty-year career with Milwaukee Public Schools. After coaching and teaching at MPS, Dick continued to enjoy his time working with UPS until he retired in 2023.
Dick was preceeded in death by his parents, Murel and Raymond Sykes. He is survived by his two ex-wives Mariann Sykes, with whom he had children Patrick and Kerry, and Jody Henderson-Sykes with whom he had children Meagan (Greg George), Lindsay (Drew Kiszelewski), Molly (Jacob Campbell), and Alexander. He was a beloved grandfather to Olivia, Natalie, William, Alexander, Rory, Landon, Iain, and Jack. Dick is also survived by his three siblings Dan (Patty), Patty (Kevin Good), AnnMarie (Jeff Micklitz), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his passion for coaching, and his commitment to teaching, all of which left a lasting impact on the many lives he touched throughout his life.
Visitation Tuesday, March 18, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Schramka Funeral Home, 13220 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield. Private burial Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin.
