Father "Bob" (Robert James) Gloudeman, 86, died August 4, 2025, at Milwaukee Catholic Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was born on August 11,1938, in West Allis, Wisconsin. He began his priestly formation at Salvatorian Seminary in St. Nazianz (Wisconsin) from 1952 – 1958, Saint Francis Seminary in Milwaukee from 1958 – 1960, and Canisianum (international school of theology) in Innsbruck, Austria from 1960 – 1964. He was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend Paul Rusch on March 14, 1964, at the Church of St. Paul in Innsbruck, Austria. His older brother Father Martin Gloudeman and his mother Anna, who was born in Austria, attended. His first Mass took place in his mother's childhood church and was attended by family members there.
He was first assigned Associate Director of the Albert Cardinal Meyer Institute at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee on January 2, 1968. He was appointed Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish in Milwaukee on October 13, 1970. On June 13, 1978, he was assigned as Associate Pastor of St. John Vianney Parish in Brookfield. Father was assigned as Chaplain at Marian Catholic Home in Milwaukee on July 6, 1981. On September 20, 1997, Father was assigned as Chaplain at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee. He retired from active ministry on June 30, 2008.
He celebrated the 60
th
anniversary of his ordination in 2024. Throughout his priesthood he actively took part in community organizations such as the Christ Child Society and St. Anne's Center for Intergenerational Care. His personal interests included being an avid Brewers and Packers fan, hiking, cycling, playing guitar, bird watching, traveling, and golf.
In his later years, Father Gloudeman faced significant health challenges, including advanced dementia, prostate cancer and frequent falls. In February he met the criteria for hospice care that was provided by St. Camillus Hospice at Milwaukee Catholic Home where he had been living since 2023. The family is especially thankful for the extraordinary care provided by the staff at Milwaukee Catholic Home
He is survived by his sister Bernadette Mohan and 40 nieces and nephews. Parents and siblings who preceded him in death: Martin & Anna (nee Kiewig) Gloudeman. Rev. Martin, Margaret, Grace (née Persik), Anne (née Zeller), Cecilia (née Hennen), Aileen (née Bauer), Harriette (Sr. Ancele), and Joseph. He will be missed for his sense of humor, generosity, and kindness to all.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Father Gloudeman will be celebrated at St. Barnabas Parish, Holy Assumption Site, 7109 W. Orchard St., West Allis on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Priest friends and former colleagues are invited to concelebrate; please bring an Alb and white stole. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m.– 10:45 a.m. Entombment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery after the Mass.
