ROBERT L. HASENSTAB, PhD
THIENSVILLE, WI. Robert "Bob" Hasenstab died peacefully on September 30, 2024. He was born June 11, 1941 in Belleville, IL. He earned his doctorate in Administration in Higher Education from St. Louis University. He spent nearly 40 years working to support non-traditional, adult learners in their pursuit of college degrees at four Jesuit universities— University of Detroit-Mercy, Marquette University, St. Louis University, and Loyola University-Chicago. He inspired the inception of the College of Professional Studies at Marquette, founded and served as the first Dean of the School of Professional Studies at St. Louis and retired as the inaugural Dean for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at Loyola. Bob was a true visionary—over 25 years ago, he anticipated satellite campuses and online learning to meet the needs of his students.
In retirement, Bob enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, spending many hours working on homes to provide affordable housing to Milwaukee families. Woodworking competed with golf in the summer and poker in the winter. He achieved every golfer's dream of a hole in one. A big thank you to his golf and poker buddies who helped him play as long as possible.
Bob was a loving and much loved husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 58 years, Patricia (Hayes) Hasenstab, his daughters, Stephanie (and her husband, Dale Nikolay) and Michelle Somerville, and his grandchildren: Jacob, William, and Delanie Nikolay, and Dustin, Ella, and Zachary Somerville. He is further survived by his brother, Mark (Lynn) and sister-in-law, Nancy Hasenstab. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Eleanore (Budde) Hasenstab and brother, Richard.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Friday, Oct. 25 from 3:30 to 6:30 at Schramka Funeral Home, 423 N. Main Street, Thiensville, WI. Donations to Habitat for Humanity are appreciated in lieu of flowers.
