Robert Lutzen

January 21, 1937 — October 5, 2017

The world lost one of its sweetest, most gentle souls on October 5, 2017 with the passing of Robert "Bob" P. Lutzen, 80, of Mequon, WI. Bob was a proud, strong man who exuded kindness and found great joy in making the people around him happy. He always maintained a positive attitude no matter what challenge lie before him. Bob enjoyed life on every level with his wife, best friend and soul mate, Valerie. Their love for each other was unmatched. The twinkle in Bob's eye let you know he was more in love with his bride each day than the day before. Together they traveled, explored the wonders of nature at their camper in Cascade, WI, created a park-like setting of gardens around their home in Mequon and played countless games of Scrabble. Bob's favorite thing to do was to feed the birds in their back yard and up at the lake in Cascade. The birds would all come "running" when they saw him coming with their food. Bob also enjoyed classical music and was a 50 year season ticket holder for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and a 30 year season ticket holder for the Milwaukee Ballet. Bob was exceptionally close to his daughters Shelly (Ed) Braun of Grafton and Kris (Gary) Notham of Franklin whom he cherished, loved and protected like no other father on earth. He also adored his grandchildren Brian (Shawna) Taylor, Natalie Notham, Nick Notham and "Little Stinker" Matthew Braun. Bob was proud to have served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve 32nd Red Arrow Division. He also spent years working with his step dad Alfred "Red" Traeder and his mother Dottie at their service station, Red's Arco, in Glendale, WI and later worked at North American Clutch in Milwaukee, WI. Bob was born on January 21, 1937 to Clarence and Dorothy Lutzen. In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, he is survived by his step sisters Caroleen Hart of North Carolina and Jeannie Gross of Nevada, and countless other family and friends. Bob provided a glowing example of how to live life to the fullest. He touched the world in a positive light in so many ways, leaving a legacy of joy, class and love. Bob and his family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all close friends, medical team members and family who offered their support and love throughout the years. You made a huge difference in our lives and we truly appreciate you. Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, October 14 at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2750 W. Mequon Rd., Mequon from 10 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Private family entombment at Wisconsin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Lumen Christi Catholic Church of Mequon, the Ozaukee Humane Society or to Happy Endings No Kill Cat Shelter.
