Age 84 passed away Monday June 8th from complications of esophageal cancer. Loving husband of Martha (Gubbins). Preceeded in death by his parents William and Frances (Owens) and his brother William. Survived by siblings Frank (Judy), Judy Reagan, Fr. John Slobig, Sr. Joan Slobig and sister in law Brenda Slobig. Devoted father of children Bob (Julia), Tom (Maureen), Dan, Kathy Bergmann (Blaine), Mary (Bill Adamski), Annie (Rich Avrut), Jim (Maria), and Paul (Vicky), 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bob was born in Chicago, IL on October 29th, 1930. He lived in Homewood IL, and attended Mt Carmel High School in Chicago, Fournier Technical Institute in Lemont, IL and Northwestern College. In 1950 he enlisted in the US Air Force, serving for four years. He then enrolled in Loyola University School of Business, Chicago where he graduated with a degree in accounting. In 1956 he married Martha and lived in Park Forest, IL, Homewood, IL and Lansing IL where they began to raise their family. In 1974 Bob's job with Grainger Inc. relocated the family to Cedarburg, WI where he worked for Doerr Electric Corp. and eventually became CEO. He was well respected by his peers and oversaw the sale and relocation of the company and many of its employees.
Cedarburg was a good fit for the Slobig family. Cedarburg schools, various colleges and universities were attended by their children. A good family life included camping trips, a lakeside home, many sporting activities (golf, swimming, tennis, boating). He participated in ministries at St. Francis Borgia Parish including the Twinning Committee with a parish in Uganda. He and Martha hosted many visitors from Uganda over the years. As Chairman of the Cedarburg Chamber of Commerce he oversaw the city's bicentennial celebration. Bob's life in retirement included travel with Martha to other countries and within the US, golf with the Sweet Freedom Golf Group, golf with his family, book clubs, charity work and enjoying his large family and many friends.
Funeral Mass Monday, June 15, 3 pm at St. Francis Borgia Church-South, N44 W6055 Hamilton Rd., Cedarburg. Visitation Monday at the Church from 1 pm until time of Mass. Inurnment at the Church Cemetery. Memorials to Sisters of Providence Retirement Fund, 1 Sisters of Providence Rd.,
