Roger Micheln

In loving memory of Roger Louis Micheln of Mequon who lay to rest with his Heavenly Father on Sunday May 17, 2015 at the age of 86. Loving husband of his wife, Jayne (Wishau) from Racine, WI. Devoted father of Douglas of Cedarburg, WI, daughter Ann (Dave) Heiden Town of Cedarburg, WI, Proud grandpa of Jonathan, Matthew, B J (Cheryl), Jenny (Craig) Wenger, great granddaughters Abby, Anna, Emma and Elli. Sister, Judy (Robert) Petersen, Appleton. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Louis (Barbara), Kenosha. Roger spent most of his working life in Advertising Sales Management at TV and Radio Stations. He became Local Sales Manager, later General Sales Manager at WTMJ-TV Channel 4 in Milwaukee, WI from 1964-1970. He also was Station Manager/Sales Manager of KWWL-TV, Waterloo/Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He helped put on the air: WFRV-TV, Green Bay, WI where he was promoted to Local/National Sales Manager. Radio experience includes Sales Manager of WBKV AM/FM, West Bend, WI for 10 years. His last position in broadcasting was Sales Executive for Time Warner Cable Advertising Sales. He also spent six years as TV/Radio Media Director/Account Executive at the old Van Handel Co. Advertising Agency in Milwaukee. He was a member of Jaycees, Elks Club, Kiwanis, Sales/Marketing Executives, Milwaukee Advertising Club, The Milwaukee Broadcasters Club. He attended public school in Appleton, WI, graduated from Appleton West High School and graduated from UW Madison with a B.A. Degree in Communications. He also spent 3 years in the Regular Army and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288, Cedarburg, WI. He led a full and complete life, was a long time member of Mequon United Methodist Church. Enjoyed his days as a radio announcer while attending UW-Madison, church activities, music, golfing, camping/canoeing, hiking, cross country skiing, travel, reading, roller blading, bicycling, playing ice hockey with the Ozaukee Bald Eagles, entertaining people with stories and humor and spending time with family and friends. You were always greeted with a cheerful smile and a hardy hand shake. Thank you to all who cared for him in his last days. Funeral will be at Mequon United Methodist Church, 11011 N Oriole Lane, Mequon, WI, Visitation this Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 12:30-2:00pm, Service at 2:00pm military honors to follow, dinner reception held immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288, P.O. Box 288, Cedarburg, WI 53012 will be appreciated.
