(nee Wittig) Born to Eternal Life on March 3, 2022 at the age of 88. Ruth died peacefully at home, surrounded by her husband and children.
Ruth was Ralph's beloved wife for almost 60 years, a loving mother to Susan (Larry) Sveda; John; Ann (Ken) Jahns; and David (Kim), and grandmother to Joey (Paige) Sveda and John (fiancée Sarah Wheeler) Sveda; Nicole and Joshua Ehlert; Brad (Karyn) Hall and Eric Hall; and Ryan and Nathan Ehlert. She was eagerly anticipating the birth of her first great-grandchild. Ruth is further survived by other relatives and friends and was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Alvina Wittig, sister and brother-in-law Miriam and Carl Goetsch, sister-in-law Alice Ehlert, and daughter-in-law Mary Ehlert.
Ruth grew up in Milwaukee and attended West Division High School before graduating from UW-Milwaukee with a degree in elementary education. She taught at Wilson Park School, Jeremiah Curtin School, and Sherman School. Ruth was a dedicated servant of God. She established her faith at Friedens Church and later became an active member at the First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa. Ruth was a firm believer in the power of prayer and prayed for friends, family, and those in need.
Ruth will forever be remembered for her kind, loving, and supportive nature. She relished opportunities to help others in whatever way she could. She was an avid writer of letters and cards, sending them both traditionally and electronically. Throughout the COVID pandemic, she enjoyed thanking others by giving a candy treat and a supportive note to everyone she encountered.
Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects. Ruth's minister described her life's influence and impact as being far greater than a simple pebble…it was more like a boulder.
